Besides, if you are willing to invest generously in a set of kitchen knife, you’ll probably have them for the rest of your life, providing you take good care of them.
Are you a big meat eater, or do you prepare a lot of meat for others in your family? If so, then your basic cooking equipment should also include a jacquard. These really are worth their weight in gold when it comes to tenderizing certain cuts, and on top of that, they also rupture the surface of meats, so when you rub on some seasoning, or you rest your meat in a marinade, the flavor will actually be able to penetrate the meat, thus resulting in a much richer flavoring.
No arsenal of cooking equipment would be complete without a good grater, in that these are just one of those cooking tools you cannot go without. Because it’s become increasingly possible to buy “ready-grated” cooking ingredients such as grated cheese, many people feel there’s no long a need for graters. Of course, if you’ve ever used ready-shredded cheese, you know that the flavor is nothing like that of freshly grated cheese. Also, graters are only there for grating cheese, but instead, they can be used for grating almost any type of food, including the likes of chocolate, onions, potatoes, citrus fruits, and etc.
The world of cooking equipment is vast, and there are certainly too many cooking tools to mention in an article as short as this one. The ones I’ve briefly discussed above are simply some which I have a personal liking for. There are also several more which I feel should have a place in every kitchen. Then there are also a number of cooking tools and devices which may be highly recommended for some, but not for others. For example, you could buy yourself an electric potato peeler, but you need to as yourself if you really need one. Do you honestly peel so many potatoes that you a machine to help you? For most people, a regular handheld peeler is more than enough, and once again, you can use it to peel other foods as well, such as carrots and apples for example. When it comes to cooking equipment, there really is no such thing as one size fits all. Your budget will also play a large role, but even if you cannot afford to splash out on a complete set of new pots, you could still try to replace your existing ones one at a time. The same applies to all cooking tools, and believe me, in the end you’ll be glad you did.
