Cooking isn’t for everyone. Some people claim they can’t make anything. But with a simple waffle recipe, you can make a yummy breakfast. There are so many mixes in boxes and ready-made frozen waffles. Isn’t that just simpler?
Well, sure. Sticking a frozen one in the toaster and waiting 2 minutes is easier. But making waffles can be easy too. And they will taste so much better! They use common ingredients that you likely will already have. Just make sure you have everything before you start. You don’t want to have to stop mid-way through to get one more egg.
One simple recipe uses flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, butter, eggs and milk. Begin by mixing 8 ounces of flour, 2 teaspoons of baking powder, 1 tablespoon of sugar and just a pinch of salt in a large bowl. Set this aside and move on to the butter.
Then, in the microwave or a small pan, melt the butter. Put this in a second bowl and add the eggs and milk. Mix these well. Now, add this to the large bowl containing the dry ingredients. Stir this thoroughly until there are no more lumps. This is your batter. Let this sit for a few minutes to flavor up while you turn on the waffle iron and let it get hot.
Once the iron is hot, apply non-stick cooking spray. Pour about cup of the batter into the iron. A ladle works best, but if you don’t have one, a spoon can be used. The waffles are done when they become golden brown on both sides and can be easily taken out of the iron. You will get 8 waffles (nine inch) from this recipe. If you want more or fewer waffles, you can adjust the recipe accordingly. Cut the measurements for each ingredient in half to make 4 waffles. Or double the measurements to make 16 waffles.
You can build on this recipe by adding cinnamon, chocolate chips, blueberries, raisins or bananas. Pretty much anything you can think of, can go into the batter. Just be sure that everything is sliced up very small so that the waffles cook evenly and are easy to eat.
Looking to go healthy? Substitute some or all of the flour for wheat flour. Replace the butter with margarine. Consider using free-range eggs as well.
That’s it! If you don’t have a waffle iron, you may choose to make pancakes with this waffle recipe. Just pour the batter onto a frying pan instead. It will be just as tasty!
