Something that has totally changed my life and made me a healthier person in many ways is vegetarian cooking. Have you ever heard that saying “You are what you eat?” We usually just laugh and go on our merry way without taking the time to really consider how very true that saying is. Vegetarian cooking is not for everyone but most of us could benefit from eating healthier.
I have been a vegetarian for many years and am often questioned in how I do it. I tell people it isn’t just about food. It is a way of thinking and a way of taking fight against disease before it starts. Many people think they could never possibly live a vegetarian lifestyle and give up their most favorite foods.
I’m here to tell you that while drastic changes are made in your diet, I enjoy almost all of my favorite foods using substitutes as replacements ingredients and cooking techniques designed for a healthy diet.
Not only has my diet changed as a result of becoming a vegetarian, but my outlook on life has also changed.
I’m no longer the couch potato, out of energy, sluggish feeling being that I was years ago. Since changing my eating habits, I have not only seen a boost in my health and well being but have also had the energy to really live and enjoy life as it was meant to be lived.
How is this possible, you ask? As I mentioned before, it’s as simple as the saying goes “You are what you eat.” Keeping this in mind gave me the will power and determination to change my life around and I know if I can do it, anyone can! While it is not easy to change old habits, it is possible to form new ones over time. In this day and age of healthy living also gives you a great selection of foods and substitutes to use in vegetarian cooking.
Since vegetables are some of the most important sources of vitamins and nutrients for the vegetarian, you can go to almost any grocery store and find the basic elements of a vegetarian diet. There are also many substitutions to meat, dairy and egg products available in stores today. Veggie burgers are easily found in the frozen food section and make a delicious meal. Tofu is also a popular choice as a meat substitute, great for baking, grilling, frying and sauteing.
Another great option and something that can easily add variety to your meals are bean products. They make a wonderful protein substitute in soups, salads, stews and rice dishes. A lot to do with vegetarian cooking is simple creativity as with any home cooking. Try new dishes, add your own ingredients or substitutes, and before long you will be well on your way to the healthy lifestyle you have been dreaming of.
Learning easy vegetarian cooking is easier today than it ever has been.
