Waffles are a basic and very common breakfast food. They are eaten in homes and restaurants all over the country. They are can also be consumed at other meals for the adventurous types. Waffles are made many different ways but if you take a basic waffle recipe, it can be tweaked and changed to get it just the way you want it and like it.
To start, you need some basic ingredients, most of which can be found in your pantry. You will need four ounces of all purpose flour and 4 ounces of whole wheat flour. You will need one tablespoon of sugar and two tablespoons of baking powder. You will need a pinch of salt, three eggs and one and a half cups of milk. Finally, you will need some vegetable oil and a waffle iron.
Waffles can be made in just a few basic steps. Start by heating up the waffle iron. Taking a few minutes to heat this up will save time later when the batter is set to go. Mix all of the dry ingredients together. These would be both of the flours, the sugar, the baking powder and the salt. Keep these together in one bowl.
In a different bowl, mix all of the wet ingredients together. The wet ingredients would be the eggs, the milk and the oil. Mix and stir all of these together until the milk and eggs are blended together well. This may take a few minutes to get the right consistency.
Pour the wet mixture and the dry mixture together in the same bowl. Mix these together until no more lumps are present. If there are any additional items that you would like to add to your waffles, add them now. These could be just about anything such as chocolate chips, fruit or cinnamon. Mix again until the batter is smooth.
With the waffle iron already heated up, pour one half cup of mixture into the iron. Close the top and leave it for about a minute. Check to see how the waffles are doing and if they are a golden brown, they are done cooking and can be eaten.
Waffles are a common breakfast food and with a simple and basic recipe, can be made very quickly. The recipe can be changed to satisfy any taste and can be made to feed large crowds as well as just a few people.
